The Best Masks for Dehydrated Skin
Freezing cold temperatures and low humidity combined with more time indoors in dry heat can make our skin extremely dehydrated during the winter months. An indicator that skin is dehydrated is if it feels stiff or tight after cleansing or throughout the day. This is a sign that your skin is screaming to add more water content to the skin, as the drier air is increasing your rate of TEWL (transepidermal water loss). Enter masks! Masks are a great way to add more hydration and lock it all in, especially if adjusting your skincare routine for the season just isn’t enough. Below are my tried and true masks for dehydrated skin.
Best for Dehydrated, Dull Skin: GlyMed+ Hydrating Mask with Enzymes, $52
Gently exfoliating with enzymes to eat up dead skin on the surface, this mask is amazing 1-2 times per week to brighten dull skin while adding lots of hydration. The enzymes mean it’s a pregnancy and breastfeeding-safe option for exfoliation, too. For skin more dry, apply a thick layer and leave on 5-10 minutes. For skin in need of more brightening, apply a thin layer and let sit 10 minutes before rinsing. If your skin is flaking or extremely dehydrated, go with an alternative option without exfoliants like one of the two listed below.
Best for Dry or Mature Skin: PCA Skin Hyaluronic Acid Overnight Mask, $78
It didn’t win an Allure Best of Beauty Award for nothing - this mask is so lightweight but locks in moisture for even the driest of skin. Clients love how quickly it penetrates and the ease of use. Apply alone on clean skin or even on top of your hydrating serums and moisturizer at night. Wash off with cleanser in the morning for supple, hydrated skin. No exfoliants here so use as often as desired!
Best for Acne Prone Skin: Face Reality HydraCalm Mask, $39
Ultra hydrating and fully acne safe, this mask is an acne-prone skincare hero. It’s calming and soothing for even the most irritated skin, so whether the environment is the culprit behind your dehydrated skin or you’ve overdone your exfoliants, this mask will be your savior. Apply onto clean skin for 10+ minutes and rinse off to remove. It’s clear and ultra thin, and you can even sleep in this mask nightly if needed!
